Food Inspections
The Board of Health sanitarians make periodic inspection checks of all restaurants, catering services, deli operations, canteen mobile trucks and ice cream trucks that operate in the town. These inspections are done to make sure that the state food sanitary code 105 CMR 590.000 and the local food regulations are being followed.
On October 1, 2000 a new mandate came into effect from the State of Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This mandate required food establishments that prepare food for the public to employ at least one person in charge (over eighteen) who has acquired a food protection manager certification. (Exceptions) An employee who becomes a certified food protection manager has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an accredited program recognized by the Department of Public Health. For more information on how to become certified, please see Food Protection Manager Certification Information.
