About Planning and Community Development

HoursMission:

To promote a vibrant and healthy community through the application of contemporary planning methods.

To provide staff support and coordinate the activities and responsibilities for the Planning & Zoning Board, Conservation Commission, Historic Commission, Housing Partnership, Community Preservation Committee, Cemetery Commission, and other Boards and Commissions of the Town of Easton.

Historical Commission, Fair & Affordable Housing Partnership,
Affordable Housing Trust Community Preservation Act Committee,
  ...and other boards and commissions as needed.

What is Planning and Community Development?

Planning is the deliberate management of change. Planners formulate plans and policies to meet the social, economic, and physical needs of the communities they serve, through a process of collaboration. Planners work to define and help realize a community's vision for itself.

Some of the Purposes of Planning:

  1. Orderly growth to minimize costs and conflicts
  2. Clean water and air
  3. Healthy economy, local jobs
  4. Good schools, other services
  5. Housing appreciation, availability, affordability
  6. Efficient use of taxes
  7. Adequate recreational areas and open space
  8. Protection of natural and cultural resources

Community Development is the physical, social, and economic revitalization of a place by the people who live there.

Development Review Team

The Development Review Team reviews major development proposals to coordinate actions among the major permitting agencies. The Development Review Team is made up of representatives from the Departments of Planning and Community Development, Public Works, Water, Police, Fire and Building
