NOTICE TO RESIDENTS: Cyclical Property Inspections
The Easton Assessors’ Office is in the process of doing cyclical inspections of real estate properties throughout the town, as well as inspections for building permits and new sales. The inspections will be done during the next few months with inspectors going door-to-door throughout neighborhoods to do inspections of both the interior and exterior of properties.
Doug Rollins will be doing inspections on the following streets: Arborway, Aspen Hollow Drive, Bay Road, Camden Way, Canton Street, Carriagehouse Lane, Center Street, Church Street, Charles Way, Benson Circle, Elm Street, Corey Drive, Cornerstone Drive, Clara Howard Way, Concerto Court, Jyra Lane, Josie’s Way, Lincoln Street, Lullaby Lane, Lilac Lane, North Main Street, Oak Leaf Lane, Scarlet Court, Serenade Park, Settlers Way, Symphony Drive, Tanglewood Drive and Acorn Road. Mr. Rollins, who drives a black 2008 Jeep Patriot, will have a letter of introduction from the town on town letterhead.
The Department of Revenue requires that every community re-inspect its real estate periodically. The state suggests reviewing a portion of properties every year rather than having a huge expense for all inspections in one year’s budget. As a result, the Easton Board of Assessors inspects some of its property every year. In addition to meeting state requirements, the objective of this project is to assure the accuracy of the Town’s assessing data.
Inspections for building permits and recent sales are also being done by the town’s chief assessor and office assistant, Robert Alford and Ann Williams, who will have Town identification with his or her photograph on it. Inspections of the interior of the property will not be done unless a person age 18 or older is present. If no one is available for the interior inspection, a notice will be left on the doorknob requesting that the resident call the Assessors’ Office at 508-230-0520 to set up appointment to view the property’s interior.
The Board of Assessors urges the public to be cooperative with the inspector and understand that by assuring the accuracy of assessing information, the Town will ensure that every homeowner pays only his or her fair share in taxes. Realtors, appraisers and banks also use our data. By making sure the Assessors’ Office has accurate information, you are also helping yourself.
